PELVIC HEALTH PHYSIOTHERAPY (EXTERNAL)

Regain your strength and confidence.

The pelvic girdle and core area of our bodies include joints, muscles, ligaments, nerves, organs, and connective tissue.  Together they play a role in every bodily movement we experience (from breathing to leaping), as well as bladder, bowel, and sexual function.

Many people accept symptoms in this region as a “normal” part of physical activity, pregnancy, childbirth or aging, and don't realize there is help through physiotherapy.

If you are experiencing pain, discomfort, leaking, core gaping, weakness or other symptoms related to your core or pelvic girdle, external physiotherapy can help you regain your strength and confidence in movement.

I can work with you through your clothes to assess and treat the common inner core and pelvic girdle issues limiting your ability to enjoy physical activity.

Pelvic health physiotherapy (external) has many benefits…

Improve your ability to breathe using your diaphragm by learning how to relax your pelvic floor.

Gain bladder control related to stress urinary incontinence (leaking when coughing, sneezing, laughing or jumping).

Optimize core strength, endurance and function, including postpartum core issues due to Diastasis Recti or C-section deliveries.

Improve pelvic floor support for mild pelvic organ prolapse concerns.

Proactively prepare for a healthy delivery and optimized postpartum recovery.

Guide yourself towards a safe and effective return to fitness postpartum.

Experience a more comfortable pregnancy, including resolving various possible musculoskeletal pains.

Achieve guidance for safe fitness during pregnancy.

Pelvic health physiotherapy (external) may include…

  • Detailed subjective and external-only examination of the pelvic floor, breathing, and core function

  • Customized physiotherapy treatments focused on restoring the breath, pelvic floor, and other aspects of the core to their optimized function

  • Treatments are primarily based on education, specific exercises, cues for daily life, and manual therapy when applicable

  • Pfilates (Pelvic Floor Pilates).

When would someone need external pelvic health physiotherapy?

If experiencing leakage of urine with coughing, sneezing, laughing or jumping.

If experiencing separation or tenting of the abdominal wall (Diastasis Recti).

If dancers or other athletes experience unresolved back, pelvis, or hip pain.

If experiencing pain during fitness.

If dancers or other athletes experience mild leaking during jumps.

During a pregnancy — to prepare the pelvic floor and deep abs for a successful recovery postpartum or to manage pain during pregnancy.

“As soon as possible” postpartum (where first appointment(s) can occur virtually, even from a recovery bed).

Any time postpartum if residual issues with bladder control or core support persist (it’s never too late to improve).

External treatment can happen virtually or in person. I will gladly refer you to a trusted colleague if an internal examination is required.

Virtual sessions take place through a securely encrypted, non-recordable platform. All you need is a safe and comfortable area and a device with a stable internet connection.

TESTIMONIAL

“After having my second child, I suffered pain in my abdominals and mild incontinence. Jen took the time to listen to my concerns, assess my condition and design a program specific to my needs. Jen was able to educate me on all matters relating to my pelvic health in ways that were easy for me to understand and as a result I saw noticeable improvement in a short period of time.”
